Moruf Akinderu-Fatai is a seasoned politician and public servant with a rich history of service in Lagos State.
Education and Early Career
Akinderu-Fatai attended Ikeja Grammar School, Oshodi, for his secondary education before proceeding to the University of Ibadan, where he earned a B.A. (Hons.) in Archaeology in 1989. His quest for further knowledge led him to study Law at the University of London, where he obtained a Higher Certificate in Law in 2015.
He also attended Johns Hopkins University, School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), Washington D.C., USA, and further honed his skills in Budget Strategies and Research Methodology at the Management Development and Productivity Institute, Accra, Ghana.
Political Journey
After a brief stint in the private sector, Akinderu-Fatai began his political career in 2001 as the Special Assistant to the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political and Legislative Power Bureau, Governor’s Office, Lagos State. In this role, he was responsible for research, coordinating political activities, fostering legislative relationships, and managing government-student relations.
In 2003, he played a crucial role as Secretary of the 2003 Governorship Campaign Committee for the Alliance for Democracy (AD), Lagos State. Following the party’s success at the polls, he was appointed Special Assistant to the Lagos State Governor on Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Relations. His responsibilities included:
Coordinating the Job Creation Policy of Lagos State within the Ministry of Special Duties.
Formulating policies for the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA) during its inception.
Federal Legislative Role
In 2007, Akinderu-Fatai successfully contested and was elected as a Member of the Federal House of Representatives, representing Oshodi-Isolo LGA 1, Lagos State. He served two terms, during which he sponsored several impactful bills and played a key role in initiatives aimed at improving the lives of Nigerians.
Commissioner for Housing, Lagos State
In October 2019, Akinderu-Fatai was appointed to the “Greater Lagos” team, led by Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, as the Honourable Commissioner for Housing. Under his leadership, significant strides were made in:
Expanding access to affordable and decent housing across Lagos State.
Completing over 23 housing projects in different parts of the state.
Creating more economic opportunities for workers in the built sector.
Helping more Lagosians achieve homeownership, thereby gradually reducing the state’s housing deficit.
