Social media platforms have been in the news of late for both right and wrong reasons, with even many calling for strict regulations of these platforms. For those who want the platforms regulated, they believe this will protect users from harmful content, such as extremism, as well as respect their privacy and data rights.

However, speakers at a recent roundtable harped on the need for users to see these platforms beyond content creation. To them, social media users need to unlock the potential for financial gains.

Titled ‘The Roundtable Lekki,’ the event, which was hosted by the Church of God Mission Int. Inc., Victoria Island Zonal Headquarters, Oniru, Lagos, provided an opportunity for participants to learn how to build brands with social media.

It is arguably the fastest means for businesses to reach millions of consumers at the same time, creating awareness for their products and at the same time gathering clientele.

In his address, Rev. Dr. Faith Emmanuel Benson Idahosa II, popularly known as Bishop FEB, spoke on how to build a personal brand online. He emphasized that mindshare increases market share.

“What can help you build a personal brand: When building our brands, most times we are obsessed with getting followers; you don’t have to do everything. Niche on one. TikTok will blow you up if you have a niche. You can solve a problem, you will prosper.

“Mindshare increases market share. Don’t chase market share; chase mindshare. We trust people we know about their details, and that is why we trust actors we never met before. You see a certain actor advertising a detergent, and because we know the actor, we trust them. We want to buy the product, but we mind if they also use the same detergent they are promoting.

Also speaking, the Commissioner, Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Lagos State, Olatunbosun Alake, noted that a lot of the companies that Lagos State has sponsored and invested in are companies leveraging social media, stressing that there are many Lagos State programs entrepreneurs can tap into, like the LASSRI voucher program for entrepreneurs that require physical offices and multiple programs for multiple sectors of society.

Rev. Chris Ubamadu, the convener, expressed the church’s commitment to addressing societal challenges such as poverty and unemployment through practical initiatives like The Roundtable Lekki. He emphasized the importance of taking proactive steps to empower individuals and foster positive change within communities.

Explaining the idea behind the theme, How To Make Money On Social Media, the cleric said the program was an initiative to address the issue of poverty, unemployment, underemployment, and all the social vices that come with it. “We can help reduce poverty by showing people little things they can do on their own to make money. We started this program in 2021; we did something on real estate twice, and we explored the entertainment sector, and this year we decided to look into financial opportunities in social media.”

As part of its initiatives to reduce the high rate of unemployment in the country, the Church of God Mission International, Garden City, Oniru, Lagos, has concluded plans to hold its annual event tagged “Roundtable Lekki’’, aimed at exposing Nigerian youths to different opportunities in job creation.

This year’s event, which is the 3rd edition, comes up on May 1st, 2023, with the theme, “The Nigerian Entertainment Industry, Opportunities and Trends.” It will be held online and at the church premises, Garden City, Lekki, Lagos. This special edition features industry giants like Ali Baba, Joke Silva, Dr. Noah Inu Momodu, comedian Buchi, DJ Gosporella, and Deji Irawo, CEO of X2D TV.

Speaking during a press conference heralding the event recently, the senior pastor of the church, Chris Ubamadu, explained the purpose of the event, which is centered on the youths’ ability to gather information on a highly interactive platform, which would assist them to build and generate employment opportunities.

In his words: “The church has a role to play as the society turns out. We believe strongly that we are not only to prepare people only for heaven but to become earthly useful unto themselves and also to the society, and nothing has touched the church more than the level of poverty in the country today.

“One thing that directly touched the country today is the level of poverty, which is unemployment; so if we fix the poverty level, we fix unemployment, and so it’s only employment that can solve it.”

The program is free, and participants are advised to register at www.roundtable.org.

The Church of God Mission International (CGMI), Garden City, Victoria Island Zone, Lagos State, would hold the second edition of “The Roundtable Lekki’ on May 2, 2022.
The Roundtable Lekki, which is a platform for networking, business development, information sharing, and joint discussion on opportunities in the real estate sector, would take place in the church’s auditorium.

Addressing journalists in Lagos recently, the convener, Rev. Chris Ubamadu, said real estate developers, land vendors, landowners, realtors, real estate agents, service providers, lawyers, support companies, financiers, mortgage firms, government officials, and other key stakeholders would grace the event.

With the theme: ‘Current Trends for Financing Real Estate Transactions,’ he said the event is expected to be attended by over five thousand participants physically and online.
According to him, “the Roundtable Lekki, this year, is focused on real estate because of the axis we are on. Real estate is a sector that houses a lot of hope for Nigerians with meaningful income. Real estate has a huge value chain—development, agency, sale of building materials, and management of the estate, among others.”

The convener, who is also the zonal coordinator of the conference, added that they had made a decision as a socially responsible organization and a church that is conscious of its role as a light to the world to empower the citizens.

The maiden edition of The Roundtable Lekki in 2021 had the Lagos State Commissioner for Urban Development in attendance. Other speakers present were developers, practitioners, and real estate companies who showcased their products and services. The successes traced to the inaugural edition included huge sales and business partnerships established; some participants established businesses while others got jobs.

The real estate sector is largely the most secured investment platform, with easy entry, high returns on investment and the absence of depreciation.

To find out how you can tap into the opportunities that abound in the sector, sign up to attend the maiden edition of The Roundtable Lekki.
